Head Start Program / Early Head (See Head Start Program)

Head Start is a federal program for preschool children from low-income families. Children who attend Head Start receive a variety of educational activities that help them grow mentally, socially, emotionally and physically. They also receive free medical and dental care, have healthy meals and snack and enjoy playing indoors and outdoors in a safe setting. The Head Start Program also provides services to meet the special needs of children with disabilities. Most children in Head Start are between the ages of three and five years old. Head Start grant includes funding for quality improvement, cost of living increases, and training and technical assistance.

Foster Grandparent Program
The program recruits and places adults who are ages 60 and over in volunteer stations addressing proirity community needs, homelessness, education, child abuse, teen pregnancy and special education:

Retired and Senior Volunteer Program

This program utilizes the vast talents of older volunteers ages 55+ who are willing to share their experiences, abilities and skills in responding to a wide variety of community needs. The program enables older Americans to contribute to their communities through volunteer service. The lives of the volunteers and those whom they serve are enhanced and the communities they serve receive a valuable service.

VITA

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance - Program offers free tax help to individuals who are age 60 or older. This program provides training and technical assistance to volunteers who provide free tax counseling and assistance to elderly individuals in the preparation of their federal income tax returns. Grant funds are used to reimburse volunteers for out-of-pocket expenses including transportation, meals, and other expenses incurred by them in providing tax counseling assistance at locations convenient to the taxpayers.
